Dr. Fred Luter

From his call to preach in 1977, to street preaching in the Lower ninth ward, to becoming one of the world’s most respected pastors, Pastor Fred Luter, Jr. has modeled faithfulness. In 2012 Pastor Luter was elected to serve as the first African American President of the Southern Baptist Convention. Well known for his humility and bold gospel witness, with a distinct focus on the family and discipling men to lead well, the Lord has used Pastor Luter to grow Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans from 65 faithful members to over 7,000.

Husband to Elizabeth, Pastor Luter and his wife have two adult children and three grandchildren.
